Snowboarding Tips
- Kelvin's Snowboarding Note
- Heel
- back straight, bent knees, sink down, slightly lean/put hips back
- Toe
- back straight, bent knees, push hips forward (slightly arch the back)
- General Guidance for the Turn
- During the turns, put pressure on the front foot. Rear foot is kind of boat rudder, manipulates by rear foot’s toe or heel. Notice that board would be locked if pressure on the rear foot.
- The angle of starting kicking varies with speed. The slower speed, the later to kick.
- C-Turn: Toe-to-Heel
- Lower the centre of gravity (the lower, the more stable)
- Move the pressure to the front foot (even first, then heel)
- Rotate upper body to turn the board toward downhill both horizontally and vertically (nice and slow, avoid any shark jerk)
- Grab something under hips with front arm. Then shoulder follows arm’s lead.
- It is kind of sit with front knee rotates outward and manipulate the steering wheel toward downhill (open).
- During upper body rotation in evenly speed, start to kick the board with rear heel while board angle is more then 45 degree (maybe closed to 90 degree).
- rear arm could be used to balance the movement of kick
- kick the board before 45 degree could wipe-out if it is relative slow
- The turn of Toe-to-Heel is finished
- Stand slightly taller to relax legs. Also unweight the board and reposition the weight to front foot
- C-Turn: Heel-to-Toe
- Lower the centre of gravity (the lower, the more stable)
- Move the pressure to the front foot (even first, then toe)
- Rotate upper body to turn the board toward downhill both horizontally and vertically (nice and slow, avoid any shark jerk)
- Grab something in front of rear toe with front arm. Then shoulder follows arm’s lead.
- It is kind of squat with front knee rotates inward and manipulate the steering wheel toward uphill (close).
- During upper body rotation in evenly speed, start to kick the board with rear toe while board angle is more then 45 degree (maybe closed to 90 degree).
- rear arm could be used to balance the movement of kick
- kick the board before 45 degree could wipe-out if it is relative slow
- The turn of Heel-to-Toe is finished
- Stand slightly taller to relax legs. Also unweight the board and reposition the weight to front foot
- S-Turn
- Connect C-Turns.
- Stand slightly taller to relax legs in between C-Turns
- Lower the centre of gravity to initiate C-Turns
- Common Mistakes
- counter rotation - upper body and lower body become disjoint and twist against each other.
- upper body and lower body should be inline with your board.
- 45 degree rule

- Stance:
- - balanced and centered to carve.
- - knees bent, back straight, hands at ur sides over ur snowboard nose and tail
- Edging:
- - flex ur angles to increase angle of snowboard and lock in ur edge
- Steering:
- - turn front end of shoulder/knee in for the toe carve
- - turn front end of shoulder/knee out for the heal carve
- Pressure
- - bent knees around the turn to absorb the pressure
- - bent back knee more to absorb the pressure at the end of the turn
- Adapt
- - small carve for mellow and low speed
- - large carve for steep and high speed
